Crystal Annette Marie Berwald was born on March 10, 1948, in Graceville, MN, to George and Alice (Hammarsten) Feldick. She was baptized on February 4, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran in Clinton, MN, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Crystal lived a happy life defined by independence. She was spirited and, at times, sassy, yet still sweet, loving, and deeply considerate.
Crystal grew up in Barry, MN, where she attended Barry Elementary and Middle School. Her favorite activities included helping with events at school and church, helping those around her, and enjoying small activities such as baking, crocheting, and writing notes to those she loved.
On March 13, 1964, Crystal married Gordon "Butch" Berwald. Together, they were blessed with five loving daughters, who remained her greatest joy. She was later blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
While Gordon and Crystal were married, Crystal worked on the farm until they divorced. She then moved to Watertown and worked at the hospital as a housekeeper. Crystal later moved to Bismarck, where she found another housekeeping job at a hospital. She eventually moved back to Watertown, where she settled into her apartment and continued her work cleaning at the hospital.
Crystal was a devoted mother who poured her whole life into her daughters, guiding them with unwavering love and strength. Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life, shaping her values and the way she cared for others. She held close the importance of family, love, and harmony. Her kindness was evident in the way she gave of herself so freely, always ready to support family and friends. She gave generously without expectation, offering her time, love, and care from a full and faithful heart.
She is survived by her five children: Tammy Berwald of Sioux Falls, SD; Rhonda Paluck of Dickinson, ND; Jackie (Kelly) Merryweather of Waterloo, NE; Jodi (Kenny) Hook-Hansen of Beardsley, MN; and Melissa (John) Remund of Wilmot, SD; 12 grandchildren: Troy, Courtney H., Caleb, Rachel, Courtney M., Kayla, Emma, Trevor, Brooklyn, Michael, Kole, and Kadie; six great-grandchildren: Liam, Wynston, Greyson, Jayden, Brielle, and Whitley, with two on the way; her siblings: Alice (JoAnn), Monte, Richard (Rick), Bruce, Virginia (Ginny), and Orin; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Alice; her siblings: Bernard, Edgar, Daryl, Oliver, Quentin, and Linda; her grandson, Karl Paluck; her great-grandson, Myles Isaac Hageman; and son-in-law, Doug Paluck.
