Carol Ann (Jurgens) Hynnek was born on June 27, 1937, in Ortonville, MN, to John and Caroline (VanErem) Jurgens. She graduated from Ortonville High School in 1955. Carol loved to travel, so she attended airline school and worked for Capital Airlines at the ticket counter. For almost two years she used her perks to travel before returning to Ortonville and her high school sweetheart.

Carol was united in marriage with Roger Hynnek on May 25, 1957, in Ortonville. They were blessed with five children. Along with raising their family, Carol worked part-time as a bookkeeper at JC Penney’s and later in the office of Big Stone City’s cheese factory. Together with Roger, they owned and operated the Matador Supper Club. After her retirement, she enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.

Carol had a sweet tooth and loved to bake treats for her family year-round, and her Christmas goody trays were incredible. Everyone had a favorite dessert, and she made sure there was a supply on hand when they came to visit. She even renamed a few recipes after her grandchildren. Gardening was also a passion for Carol. She always had a large and well-tended flower garden as well as numerous house plants. After the gardening season, Carol would make Christmas crafts to sell with her local craft group, and she could sew just about anything from curtains and quilts to doll clothes and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren.

Carol’s unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Ortonville where she contributed to the Women’s Circle.

Carol is survived by her children: Patty (Jim) Trump of Johnstown, CO; Mike (Lori) Hynnek of Clinton, MN; Leslie Bundy of Oregon, WI; and Jeff (Natasha) Hynnek of Ortonville, MN; grandchildren: Brianna Sosa (Justin Peterson), Nick (Jamie) Sosa, Sydney Hynnek, Caitlin (Nathan) Barnard, Collin Bundy, Lexi Hynnek, and Isaac Hynnek; and great-grandchildren: Ethan, Gavin, and Rhett.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Roger, in 2023, and her son, Steve, in 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Big Stone Health Care Foundation and Mound Cemetery Association.
