Carol Jean Fischer, age 76, of Milbank, SD, passed away on March 22, 2023.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Carol Jean Fischer, daughter of Russell and Viola (Jacobson) Kallstrom, was born in Graceville, MN, on July 2, 1946. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Browns Valley, MN. She joined the Emanuel Lutheran Church family in 1971.
She grew up in South Dakota near Browns Valley on the family farm. She attended Browns Valley school through sixth grade, then attended North Bryant for one year before returning to Browns Valley High School, where she graduated in 1964. She worked in St. Paul, MN, at St. Paul Fire and Marine – Western Life for five and a half years. She moved to Milbank in 1970, where she was united in marriage to Preston D. Fischer on September 5, 1970.
She was employed at Milbank Mutual in 1970, which then became Royal Insurance and later, State Auto. She worked for thirty-one years before her health stopped her from working.
To the union of Preston and Carol, the blessing of a son, David P. Fischer, was born on May 28, 1976. On August 7, 1998, she was blessed with a daughter, Danielle Peterson, who became the mother of her granddaughter, Paige Riley.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and any outside work.
Surviving family include her husband, Preston; one son and his wife, David and Danielle Fischer of Sioux Falls, SD; one granddaughter, Paige Riley of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters: Genevieve Oest of Cameron, IL: Verna Ward of Alexandria, MN; Shirley Zacharias and husband Jerome of Rapid City, SD; brother, Gerald Kallstrom and wife Tami, Breckenridge, MN; one sister-in-law, Barbara Kallstrom of Sisseton, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lyle Kallstrom; nephew, Brian Zacharias; brothers-in-law: Alden Ward and Bill Lusk; and great-nephew, Edward Kallstrom.
