Betty Sperry, age 89, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.

Private Inurnment will be held. Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2024.

Betty “Jo” Joan Walters was born on July 21, 1934, to Loris and Maude (Bishop) Walters in Pratt County, KS. She was baptized and confirmed in the Brethren Church in Stockton, CA. Where she served as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and board member.

Jo attended high school in Stockton and graduated in 1952. She married George F. Sperry in 1955. She was a dedicated army wife and mother to Tom and Janice Sperry.

Jo worked as a bank teller at Wells Fargo for many years and later pursued a career in education. She served as both teacher and director at EMC preschool in Stockton, CA. Mrs. Jo was loved by all her children throughout the years.

Jo moved to South Dakota later in life to live out her last years with her daughter and her beloved grandchildren. Jo was an incredible woman who was loved beyond measure, not only by her family, but by all who knew her.

She is survived by her two children: Tom (Lynda Walker) Sperry of Stockton, CA; and Janice Sperry of Milbank, SD; daughter-by-love, Stacy Brotzel of Milbank, SD; three siblings: Dorothea Tadlock; Kenneth (Sue) Walters; and Keith Walters, all of Stockton, CA; 10 grandchildren: Jason Sperry, Jodie Sperry, Jeremy (Amber) Sperry, Ricci (Jacob) Dusky, Cathrine (Paul) Stovall, Tonise Blackwell, and David Blackwell; Davanna Dozier; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents: Loris and Maude Walters; husband, George Sperry; and seven siblings; and one great-grandchild.
