Arlo Christians

Arlo Christians, age 88, of Twin Brooks, SD, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Rev. Tim Rynearson will officiate, and interment will be at Milbank City Cemetery.

Arlo Frank Christians was born on August 27, 1934, in Milbank, SD, to Harry and Gladys (Gill) Christians. He attended country school and graduated from Milbank High School with the Class of 1952.

In 1954, Arlo joined the United States Army and spent most of his military time in Alaska as a diesel mechanic.

On November 14, 1959, Arlo was united in marriage with Shirley Bucholz at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bellingham, MN. To this union, three children were born.

During his life, Arlo was a grain and dairy farmer. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Board of Elders. Arlo was also the Township Clerk and supervisor for Madison Township for many years.

Arlo’s pride and joy were his granddaughters and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed many rides around the farm on his Gator.

Arlo is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Shirley; two sons: Michael Christians and Keith (Natalie) Christians; daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Peterson; four granddaughters: Kayla (Mark) Huntington, Kelsey Peterson, Kellie Christians, and Cassidy Christians; three great-grandchildren: Kent, Ronnie, and Gwen; sisters-in-law: Judy Radtke, Faye Runge, and Rose Bucholz; brother-in-law, Francis Boogaard; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Cara Christians; and two brothers: Earl Christians and Allan Christians.
