Alex Jeffery Duane Hughes was born on September 2, 1999, in Ortonville, MN, to Ryan Johnson and Pamela Hughes. He was able to graduate a whole year early from Montevideo ALC and he was very proud of his accomplishment.

Alex lived in many different places, but his most recent move was to Clarks Grove, MN, where he found his love for cutting down trees and wanted to open his own commercial tree trimming business. He moved back to Big Stone City in March 2020 and was still able to do what he loved.

Family was very important to Alex. He loved the time he spent with his family and would go above and beyond for his brothers. Alex was always trying to teach his brothers new things or go out of his way to impress his grandpa.

Alex had to have all the new electronic gadgets like the newest games and cell phones. He also loved motorcycles and sports bikes. Alex got his first bike in the summer of 2017. He traded it off in October 2019 for his brand-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and it truly was his baby.

Alex had three loves: his family; his love, Lizzie; and his bike. He also had a little cat that he spoiled relentlessly.

Left to cherish Alex’s memory are his mother, Pamela (Casey) Scruton; father, Ryan (Melanie) Johnson; brothers: Avier Hughes, August Scruton, Riley Johnson, and Rowan Johnson; special love, Elizabeth Smith; paternal grandparents: Randy (Lynne) Johnson; maternal grandparents: Jeffery (Rebecca) Hughes; maternal great-grandmothers: Gloria Zempel and Deanna Hughes; paternal great-grandparents, Larry (Jyla) Dahle; along with many cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers: Earl Zempel and Lloyd Hughes; and cousin, Kynslee Hughes.
