Roger Green

Roger Green, age 84 of Wilmot passed away on April 5, 2020, at Wilmot Care Center.

Private family services will be held on Friday and burial will be at Wilmot City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion, Drake Sorbel Post #64.  Casket bearers will be: Ryan Green, Caleb Green, Kristopher Green, Kelby Green, Kailor Green, Aarik Green, Jordan McPeek, and David Souhrada. Honorary bearers will be Roger’s granddaughters, granddaughters-in-law, and great-grandchildren. Friends and neighbors are invited to line their vehicles along Highway 123 at 3:00 p.m. on Friday as the family travels to the cemetery.

A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

To protect the health and safety of all, services are currently being limited to 10 as required by state and local authorities and the CDC. Expressions of sympathy during this time can be left on the condolences page available with the obituary on our website.

Roger Dean Green was born on November 23, 1935, in Wilmot, SD.  He was the son of Harm and Martha (Becker) Green.  Roger grew up and attended school in the Wilmot area.  He started farming after he completed the eighth grade.  He farmed with his father and worked for several area farmers.  He began farming on his own in 1953. In his late teens Roger accepted Christ as his Savior and lived his life honoring the Lord. Roger was united in marriage on August 25, 1957, with Louise Johnson, at Marvin, SD.

Roger served in the United States Army from September 4, 1958, until his honorable discharge on June 3, 1960. He served time in Germany. Louise joined Roger in Germany for the last six months of his service.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge (Pistol) and Expert Badge (Rifle).  Roger returned to Wilmot and continued his career in farming.

Roger was a life-long farmer in the Wilmot area, raising livestock and grain farming. He was a faithful member of Zion Community Church in Wilmot.  He served on the church’s Steward Board and Trustee Board.  He was a member of the Whetstone Valley Tractor Club.  Roger enjoyed tinkering with and restoring antique tractors.  He enjoyed tractor drives and parades in the area.

Roger’s memory will be cherished by his wife of 62 years, Louise of Wilmot, SD; his four children: Wayne (Brenda) Green of Hutchinson, KS; Wes (Dorene) Green of Wilmot, SD; Brian (Shelly) Green of Wilmot, SD; and Lisa (Lee) McPeek of Watertown, SD; 18 grandchildren: Ryan (Karina) Green, Caleb (Bethany) Green, Brittani Green, Karyna (David) Souhrada, Kris (Wendy) Green, Kalli Green, Kelby Green, Kailor Green, Journey Green, Aarik Green, Jordan (Taylor) McPeek, Carly McPeek, and Caitlyn McPeek; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Green of Wilmot, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents: Harm and Martha; sister, Sylvia and her husband Elmer Tietjen; brothers: Elroy Green and his wife Joyce, and Marlyn Green; one great-granddaughter, Nora Souhrada; and several nieces and nephews.
