Clarice Borns

February 22, 1940 — September 4, 2019

Milbank, SD

Clarice Borns, age 79, of Milbank,  died on September 4, 2019, at St. William’s Care Center, in Milbank.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore.  Pastor Ken Nelson will officiate, and burial will be in Milbank City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank.  Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.

Clarice Wright Borns was born on February 22, 1940, in Hendricks, MN.  She was the daughter of Melvin and Clara (Graslie) Wright.  She grew up in White, SD and in Marvin, SD. She graduated from South Shore High School.  She was united in marriage with Orlen Borns on July 23, 1960, in Marvin, SD.

Clarice worked for 35 years in the fabric department of Ben Franklin, Liebe Drug, and Lewis Drug.  She loved sewing and craftwork.  She enjoyed her job and loved her customers.  She was a faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Orlen Borns of Milbank, SD; one son, Todd Borns of Milbank, SD; two brothers: Rich (Lynea) Wright of Grenville, SD; and Jim Wright of Lake Preston, SD.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin and Clara; daughter-in-law, Michele Borns; brother, Cliff Wright; and sister, Ann Peterson.

Clarice’s family found this laminated verse that she has carried in her purse for 25 years, following the death of her daughter-in-law, Michele:

“God looked around His garden and saw an empty space. He then looked down from heaven and saw your tired face. He knew that you were suffering, and a cure was not to be. So, he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched as you slowly passed away and tho’ we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. Many times we’ve cried. If love alone could have saved you, you would have never died. We miss you so, our hearts are sore, as time goes by, we miss you more. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone for part of us went with you the day God took you home. There’s no more pain now, you are free to live again in harmony.”
