Douglas Owen “Doc” Cameron, age 83, of Wilmot, SD,died on November 12, 2018, at the Milbank Hospital.
Funeral services for Doc Cameron will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley, MN. Pastor Abigail Ozanne will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 PM on Friday at the church in Browns Valley. Burial will be in the Wilmot City Cemetery.
Doc was born in Ortonville, MN, on September 11, 1935, to William B. and Eleanore (Heale/Heald) Cameron. He graduated from Wilmot High School in 1953. Doc married Claudia Schmidt on November 2, 1966 and they lived and farmed near Wilmot. Doc and Claudia had one child, who passed away at birth.
In addition to being a farmer, Doc worked as a flagman for Bituminous Paving, was an auctioneer, a police officer in Browns Valley, and was a horse trader. He was a member of the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church of Browns Valley and the Sisseton Masons Lodge 131 for 56 years. Doc also served in the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, and wife Claudia.
Doc is survived by his step-daughters: Becky (David) Hansen of Wilmot, SD, Kim (Mark Blatnik) Whelan of Duluth, MN, and Jodi (Jim) Patnoe of Chicago, IL; brother, Allan (Mary) Cameron of Wilmot, SD; nine step- grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren and one more on the way; many nieces and nephews.
