Dennis Estenson Sr., age 73, formerly of Strandburg, SD, died October 24, 2018, at Desert View Hospital, Pahrump, NV.
Funeral services for Dennis Estenson Sr. are scheduled for Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Living Word Lutheran Church, Milbank, SD. Rev. Kent Groethe will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the LaBolt Cemetery at a later date.
Dennis Estenson was born at Luther Hospital in Watertown, SD, to Selmar and Frances (Bates) Estenson on the twelfth day of November 1944. He was baptized in Clear Lake, SD at the Lutheran Church and confirmed at the LaBolt Lutheran Church. Dennis completed grade school in LaBolt, SD, and attended high school in Strandburg, SD, where he graduated. His favorite sport was basketball. After graduation, Dennis worked for local farmers doing various jobs.
On April 17, 1964, Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in San Antonio, TX, Greenville MS, Montgomery AL, Amarillo, TX, Okinawa, Japan, back to San Antonio, TX, with his final transfer being Anchorage, AK. He enjoyed living in Alaska and remained there for three years after leaving the Air Force.
Since Dennis liked moving, meeting new people, and learning new skills, he had the opportunity to live in several states. Some of these were South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, Minnesota, Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Kansas, California and Nevada. He was talented and worked in many different fields including: medical, engineering, refrigeration, and most recently as an instructor at Garden City Community College.
Dennis is survived by: his mother and step father, Francis and Ken Kunde; ex-wife, Virginia Wenjie; ex-wife, Robin Shuman; children: Tori Larson, of Mesa, AZ, Heather Smith of Greeley, CO, and Dennis Jr. Estenson of Pahrump, NV; sisters: Sharon Eakes and Jean Angelson; sister-in-law, Rose Estenson; step children: Jean Dorale of Watertown, SD, Joan Wagner of Marvin, SD, Jane Rooker of TN, and Jim Kunde of Milbank, SD; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Preceding Dennis in death are his father, Selmer Estenson; brother, Selmer Estenson Jr.; and nephew, Terry Dolen.
