Vernice Klapel

March 24, 1921 — January 7, 2005

Vernice Adeline Melberg Klapel was born March 24, 1921 in Milaca, Minnesota to Edwin Melberg and Mabel (Larson) Melberg. She had 4 brothers and 5 sisters.



Vernice lived her early childhood years in rural Madison, SD moving back to Minnesota when she was ten years old. She lived with her family in the Chokio area until her marriage to Reuben Klapel in 1944. He passed away in 1958 but Vernice continued to live in Ortonville and raised their three children there.



Vernice was baptized into the Lutheran faith and became a member of First English Lutheran Church with her husband Reuben in January 1952. Her son, Kevin, lived with her and took care of her until his death in 2002.



Vernice loved home and family most of all. She enjoyed painting and drawing, reading and playing games. Vernice made many friends during her residence at Northridge and was well know for her hugs. "There's something in a simple hug that always warms the heart; it welcomes us back home and makes it easier to part."



Vernice passed away on Friday, January 7, 2005 at the Northridge Residence Home in Ortonville, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reuben; one son, Kevin; brothers Eugene, Orton, Earl, and Ross and sisters Lorraine Pettersdorf and Erna McBrady.



She is survived by her children, Ronald (Peg) of Hinckley, MN and Narvilla (Ronald) Rabe of Omaha; grandchildren Susan Klapel of Hinckley, MN; Tanya (Douglas) Lynch of Omaha, NE; Marcus Rabe of Omaha, NE.; Dann Klapel of Hinckley, MN; Great grandchildren Logan (5) and Alexa (2) Lynch of Omaha, NE; her sisters, Wynette Strubbe of Pelican Rapids, MN; Vione Luikens of Andover, MN; and Eunice Olson of Hoffman, MN
