Verna Larson was born on February 21, 1931 in rural Ortonville to parents Jens Peter “Pete” and Lily (Hegge) Larson. She was raised in the Ortonville area; Verna was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Verna attended County School District # 21 through the 8th grade. She graduated from Ortonville High School in 1948 and then attended three years of Nurse training at Halstead Hospital in Halstead, Kansas. She graduated from 1951 receiving a degree as a Registered Nurse.
On July 28, 1951, Verna was united in marriage to Jack Scott in Halstead, KS. While Jack was in the Air Force, Verna worked in various states, including Kansas, California and Colorado. In 1954, they moved back to Ortonville, MN where Verna worked at the Ortonville Hospital until 1978 when they moved to Wadena, MN. She was employed as an RN in Wadena until 1994 when they returned to Ortonville where Verna then worked at Northridge Residence for 5 years.
Verna died on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN. She had lived to reach the age of 79 years.
Verna is survived by her son Greg Scott of West Fargo, ND ; grandchildren Michael (April Cumber) Scott of Fargo, ND, Andy (Alexis Swanton) Scott of Plymouth, MN and Alyssa Scott of West Fargo, ND; great grandson Jack Thomas Scott of Plymouth, MN; brother Johnny (Arlene) Larson of Ortonville; sister Lorene (Ed) Kiernat of Ortonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Verna is preceded in death by her husband Jack; brother Arlo Larson; and one sister Dorothy Hoxtell.
Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville is in charge of arrangements.
