Vera Schulte

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Schulte, age 93, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at the Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Pastor Ronald Kelway and Pastor DeVern Schwenn will officiate. Vera died on Friday, October 7, 2005, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to attend services. The organist will be Betty DeBoer and the pianist will be Barb Bear. Rita Wellnitz will be the soloist. A duet will be sung by her granddaughters Barbara Wilts and Brenda Stahl. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Gene Sprung, Roy DeBoer, Daryl Stengel, Don DeBoer, Ken Schulte, and Dennis Van Asch. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Vera was born on March 31, 1912, in Roberts County, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Minnie (Hoffman) Sprung. She attended country school in Roberts County. Vera was united in marriage to Alfred Schulte on April 14, 1930, in Roberts County. Following marriage, the couple resided in the Corona and Twin Brooks areas and in Milbank. Vera was a homemaker and worked as a hospital nurse's aid. Her husband Alfred died on July 25, 1978. Vera had resided at Rita's Elderly Home Care in Milbank for eight years.
She accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Corona on August 2, 1925. Vera was active in the ladies aide. When the Corona Baptist Church closed, she joined Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Vera was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed needlework and excelled as a seamstress. Vera especially enjoyed crocheting placemats, afghans, baskets, Christmas angels, and ornaments.
Survivors include two daughters, Mavis Knaus and husband Kenneth, Milbank, and Janice Heikkila and husband Jerre (this is the correct spelling), Maple Grove, MN; one son Dale Schulte and wife Bonnie, Milbank; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one sister Amelia DeBoer, Milbank.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and three brothers. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements.
