Ruth Dittes

March 13, 1925 — January 17, 2007

Ruth Ester Hanson was born on March 13, 1925 in Mission Hill, SD to parents Harry and Elizabeth (Kraayenbrink) Hanson. She grew up in a very large family, having 20 brothers and sisters. Upon graduation from high school, Ruth went on for training to become a teacher which she did for a short time. Teaching was not to her liking so Ruth began working as an office manager and bookkeeper for various businesses throughout her life.

On November 23, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage to Ralph Erick Dittes at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. To this union was born one son, Loren (Lon). Ruth and Ralph celebrated 54 years of marriage prior to his passing on July 20, 2001.

Ruth had a very organized and meticulous way about her which aided her in her office work, but she also liked to have fun and had a wonderful sense of humor. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, quilting, and crocheting. She was especially adept at the Norwegian style of stitching called "Hardainger". Ruth was also an excellent cook and baker, her family delighted in her meatballs, lefsa, rosettes, and especially krumkaka.

Ruth passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Elizabeth; husband, Ralph; son, Lon; 8 brothers and 5 sisters.

Ruth is survived by her grandson, Rob Dittes; granddaughter, Amy (Gary) Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Dittes and Alecia Hagen and Alexa, Jacob, and Taylor Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Donna Dittes. She is also survived by sisters, Elaine (Wendell) Hanson and Naomi (Calvin) Sandlin; five half-sisters, Edna Kraayenbrink, Cora Dillman, Myrtle McPherson, Viola Merritt, and Nellie Hanson; caregiver/niece, Patty (Roger) Haukos and many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
