OBITUARY FOR RONALD BECKMAN

Ronald Lee Beckman, 83, died September 15, 2017, in a Milbank care facility. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30th, at 10:30 AM at the Living Hope Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Ortonville with Pastor David Homrighausen officiating. Family visitation will be held at Lakeside Park from 4 to 6 PM on Friday, September 29th.

Known to everyone simply as “Ron”, he was born February 26, 1934, in Ortonville to parents Clarence and Ila (Sigloh) Beckman. He graduated from Ortonville High School in 1952 and always enjoyed annual gatherings with his classmates.

Ron entered the military in 1952 and served with the Marines in Korea during that conflict. Ron was very proud of his military service and proudly wore his U.S. Marine cap.

He married Kay Savage in 1958 and they made their first home in Brainerd, MN, where Ron worked for the Minnesota State Forestry Department. After a few years, they returned to Ortonville when Ron went to work for Hasslen Construction Company where he worked for 22 years.

Ron loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He harvested many deer with bow, cross-bow, hand-gun, rifle and shot gun slugs. He was an unusually fine big brother and father who showed his younger brother and his sons the ins and outs of hunting and fishing and the great outdoors. Ron caught one of the biggest northern pikes ever to come out of Big Stone Lake. The trophy fish was displayed at a sports show in Sioux Falls.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Mark. He is survived by Kay Beckman, four children: LeAnne Walker, Timothy Beckman, Lynn Beckman, and Daniel Beckman, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, his brother Lance Beckman (White Salmon, WA) and sister Roselyn Peters (Grantsburg, WI).
