Robert Pflueger

Pflueger, Robert R. of Ortonville, Minnesota passed away peacefully October 8, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Born in Ortonville, Minnesota on November 26, 1922, Bob was proud to be a lifetime resident of Ortonville. Survivors are his wife Lois Pflueger, daughter Ann and husband Jon Kemske, Grandson Nickolas Kemske and wife Abigail, sister Marguerite and husband Vincent Stegner.



Bob graduated from Ortonville High School in 1939 and from the University of Minnesota in 1947 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School with a Juris Doctor Degree and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Academic Fraternity. He was a 50+ year member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, a member of the Lockhart Club of the U of M Law School, and a member of the President’s Club of the University of Minnesota.



As a decorated fighter pilot of 82nd Fighter Group, 15th Air Force at Foggia, Italy, he flew 53 missions in a P-38 Lockheed “Lightning.” Awarded the D.F.C. and Air Medal with three Oak Tree Clusters, Bob was a lifelong member of the 82nd Fighter Group Association.



Bob & Lois were married March 20, 1948 in Appleton, Minnesota and in1950 began his law practice in Ortonville. He was admitted to practice law in all Courts in Minnesota, South Dakota and the United States Supreme Court.



Bob was a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the 16th Judicial Bar Association, and served on various Committees including Legislative, Court Rules and Judicial Selection. He served as Chairman of the 16th Judicial Bar Association Ethics Committee and Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.



Bob was City Attorney for Ortonville for more than 25 years and also for Brown’s Valley and Clinton. He was Registrar of Titles for Big Stone County until his retirement in 2002. Bob also served as Big Stone County’s Appeal Agent for the Big Stone County Draft Board.



He was General Counsel, Secretary and Director of Big Stone Canning Company of Ortonville from 1965 until its sale to Dean Foods. Bob was General Counsel for Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency and a 25 year member of the Board of Directors of Minnwest Bank, Ortonville.



He was an officer and member of many local and civic organizations including American Legion, Big Stone County Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, Mound Cemetery Board, Ortonville Municipal Golf Course, United Church of Christ, VFW, and Wayzata Country Club.



Bob was one of the original founders of Big Stone Health Care Foundation serving as a Director, General Counsel, and Secretary. He was instrumental in building the Hospital Dialysis Unit for the City of Ortonville which opened in 2004.



Memorials preferred to the Ortonville Dialysis Unit of the Big Stone Health Care Foundation.
