Orvin Vaage

Orvin Cleveland was born on April 28, 1920 to parents Gust and Nettie (Hanson) Vagge in Appleton Village, Swift County, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm where he helped his father with the farming. Orvin attended country school until the eighth grade. After his schooling, he continued to farm with his father.



On April 10th, 1981, after many years as a bachelor, Orvin was united in marriage to Julia Paulson Pederson at American Lutheran Church in Milbank by Pastor Verhulst. Not only did he marry, but also gained a family with Julia’s four children. When Orvin and Julia were first married, they lived between their two homes, until 1983 when Orvin decided to retire and move into Odessa with Julia permanently. After Orvin retired, he rented out his farm for about 20 years before selling it.



Julia spend time getting Orvin to fish and they would regularly go on Long Tom Lake, after their move into Odessa, they would fish on the river. Orvin also enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting in his younger years, and liked reading. Orvin was full of fun; he was very quiet, never got into anybody else’s business and would do anything for you if he was able.



Orvin passed away on October 5, 2010 at his home in Odessa. He had lived to reach the age of 90 years.



Orvin is survived by his wife Julia of Odessa, MN; children: Marilyn Brown of Ortonville, MN, Phyllis Pederson of River Falls, WI, Larry (Rose) Pederson of Odessa, MN, and Tim (Pam) Pederson of Mounds View, MN; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.



Orvin is preceded in death by his parents Gust and Nellie and his sister June Vaage.
