Funeral services for Norma Aden, age 74, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend Keith Bicknase will officiate. The organist will be Roger Goosen. Norma died on Sunday, December 6th, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank.
Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:00 a.m. Friday to attend services. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and will continue in the church Friday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Natasha Gazo, Matthew Bowers, Cassandra Arnold, Blake Eldridge, Tod Arnold, and Shaelee Bowers. Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Karista Karges, Britanni Aden, Kendra Cloos, Brenna Cloos, Samantha Aden, and Adam Cloos. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Norma was born on March 27, 1935, at her parents' home in Revillo, SD, to Art and Viola (Petersen) Behlings. She was baptized on May 12, 1935, and confirmed on May 29, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Revillo. Norma graduated from Revillo High School on May 21, 1953.
In July 1953, Norma began working as a cashier at the National Tea Grocery Store in Milbank. She worked in the Grant County Auditor's Office from 1956-59. Later, she worked as a cashier at Beren's Warehouse Groceries in Milbank for fourteen years. She also cooked, washed dishes, and worked the line in the Milbank High School and Koch School lunch rooms.
Norma married Darreld Aden on August 23, 1958, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Revillo. Following marriage, they resided in Milbank.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank where she was active in the Be Ye Doers. Norma was also active on the Election Board.
She loved to spend time with her family and to play cards and games. Norma enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school activities and loved to go to high school sports activities. She was willing to help anyone who needed help.
Survivors include her husband Darreld, of Milbank; four children: Doug Aden and wife Jen and Jolene Cloos and husband Jim, all of Milbank; Angela Arnold and husband Alan, of Hubert, NC; and Dawn Bowers and husband Scott, of Martinez, GA; twelve grandchildren: Karista Karges, Big Stone City, SD; Natasha Gazo, Hubert, NC; Britanni Aden, Milbank, SD; Kendra Cloos, Fargo, ND; Matthew Bowers; Cassandra Arnold, Lexington, KY; Brenna Cloos, Moorhead, MN; Blake Eldridge, Martinez, GA; Samantha Aden, Eagan, MN; Tod Arnold, Hubert, NC; Adam Cloos, Milbank; and Shaelee Bowers, Martinez, GA; five great grandchildren: Jaraan Myers, Isabella Myers, and Ethan Karges, all of Big Stone City, SD; Kyrie Gazo and Sawyer Gazo, both of Hubert, NC; three sisters, Rose Heuer, Stockholm, SD; Phyllis Silberstein and husband Delton, Ortonville, MN; and Donna Poel, of Milbank; two brothers, Lyle Behlings and wife Janet, of Milbank, and Roger Behlings, Custer, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bill and Willie Behlings, and one sister, Sharon Ferber.
