Minnie Merritt

June 4, 1923 — September 1, 2005

Minnie was born on June 04, 1923 in Odessa Township to parents John J. and Mary M. (Willhausen) Shaleen. Minnie was baptized on April 02, 1932 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Odessa, and was confirmed on March 12, 1939 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Minnie attended school in Ortonville up through 12th grade. Minnie was employed as a grocery clerk and baker for more than twenty years at Bernies Grocery and Red Owl Store.



On January 07, 1940 Minnie was united in marriage to Archie John Merritt at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. To this union one daughter Verona and one son John were born.



Minnie enjoyed gardening, bird feeding and watching, doing puzzles and word finds, watching TV and playing cards. Family was first and foremost in Minnie?s life. She was a hard worker and always had the coffee on should anyone drop in. Family gatherings included homemade fruitcake at holiday time and she used to can fruits and vegetables as well as pickles. Minnie also enjoyed picking apples at the Fruit Farm orchard yearly. She always appreciated anyone wanting to play cards or drink coffee with her. Her grandkids loved being at Grandma?s house. Her greatest joy lately has been her 1st great-grandson, Hunter, he could always bring a smile to her face.



Survivors include daughter Verona (Roger) Anderson; son John (Jean) Merritt; granddaughters, Denise (Bob) Cloos and Amy (Ryan) Giles; grandsons Brian (Lisa) Merritt and Dean R. Anderson; great-grandson, Hunter Merritt; brother Clarence Shaleen; and nieces and nephews.



Minnie was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Shaleen; her husband Archie (who passed away June 18, 1971); brothers, John, Melvin, and William Shaleen; and sisters Dorothy Swenson and Martha Ducker.
