Mildred Thymian

March 4, 1933 — March 2, 2009

Memorial services for Mildred Thymian, age 75, of Big Stone City, SD, will begin at 11:00
a.m.
on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. The Reverend Marlene
Elmstrom will officiate. The organist will be Arlene Vollmer. There will be no
visitation. It was Mildred's wish that she be cremated. The Emanuel-Patterson
Funeral Home in Milbank is in charge of the arrangements. Mildred was born on March
4, 1933, in Davis, Illinois, the daughter of Clifford
and Hazel (Hagemeister) Pyle. She graduated from Ortonville (MN) High School and
from the University of Minnesota-Morris. Mildred was united in marriage to Donald Thymian on March 29, 1953, in Ortonville. They farmed east of Ortonville and
near Odessa, MN. Her husband died on May 27, 2005. Mildred was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. She served
on national boards of the United Church of Christ for several years and worked
in local businesses in the Ortonville and Milbank areas. She was proud that she
ran for a Minnesota state congressional seat in 1980.
She gained great personal satisfaction from "persuading other people" and
"expressing her opinion." Mildred
believed in the Republican Party, interesting books, good gravy with well done
meat, cheddar cheese sandwiches, and salty buttered popcorn at any hour of the
day or night. In the last couple years, she found a new passion in inspiring
writers of all ages. Mildred was
very proud of her grandkids ("all extremely intelligent and good
looking") and she delighted in her great grandson, Colby. In the last couple
months, Mildred often expressed her gratitude for her neighbors and friends
(old and new) who sent her cards, phoned, or stopped by to help her. Survivors include her four children: Jari Thymian and husband Greg Fischer, of Denver, CO;
Russell Thymian and wife Kathi, of rural Ortonville, MN; Addie Waits and
husband Randy, of Sioux Falls, SD; and Bradley Thymian and wife Julie, of rural
Ortonville, MN; eight grandchildren: Ben
Waits and fiancAC.e Rachel; Emilie Waits and fiancAC.e Josh; Al Waits; Katie, Kelly
and Lindsey Thymian; Jesse Thymian and wife Wendy; and Adam Thymian; and one
great grandson, Colby Klein. In addition
to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clayton Pyle.
