Marlys Folkens

July 19, 1923 — December 27, 2006

Marlys Marie Folkens was born on July 19, 1923 to Elmer and Evelyn (Kosse) Christians in Grant Co. Milbank, South Dakota. She graduated from the Milbank High School in 1943. Marlys married Carl Folkens on January 25, 1945 at the parsonage in Clinton, MN. She lived in Portland, OR while Carl was in the service and returned to Clinton August 6, 1946 where they farmed. They were blessed with five children; Charles, Linda, Judy, Douglas, and Barbara.

Marlys took great pride in raising her children and supporting them throughout their lives and continued this with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to sporting activities and took a keen interest in how her children and grandchildren did. One of her favorite things was family time at the lake together. She enjoyed baking wonderful cakes and cookies for her family and playing games with her grandchildren, even though grandma's rules especially favored her. Her family and friends will greatly miss the stories she told knowing that she "never let a few good facts get in the way of a good story."

Marlys and Carl celebrated fifty-eight wonderful years together prior to his passing in 2003. Following Carl's passing, Marlys moved into the Apple Ridge Independent Living in Appleton, MN. Marlys and Carl were both active members of the United Methodist Church throughout their lives.

Marlys passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents, Elmer and Evelyn; and three sisters, Pearl, Arlene, and June.

Marlys is survived by her five children: Charles (Donna) Folkens of Big Lake, MN, Linda (Richard) Ehrenberg of Correll, MN, Judy (Donald) Puffer of Southwick, MA, Douglas (Sharon) Folkens of Hector, MN and Barbara Hannes of Litchfield, MN. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Christians; one sister, Beverly (Phillip) Peterson; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Donovan) Tesch, Leola Lovgren, Rita Folkens, and Isabella Folkens; and one brother-in-law, Jay (Doris) Folkens.
