Margaret Carlson

October 2, 1921 — March 23, 2006

Margaret Emma (Ewert) Carlson was born on October 2, 1921, on the family farm in Prior Township near Barry, MN, to parents, Emil and Paulina (Raddatz) Ewert. As a young girl, Margaret attended Barry Country School. Following her education, Margaret married Roy Carlson in 1938. To this union eight children were born, Jennie, Ronnie, Robert, David, Cari, Jerry, Marilyn, and Denese. The family lived in Montevideo, MN, for a short time before returning to Big Stone County and made Clinton, MN, their home.

Upon their return, Margaret took over and began operating Margaret's CafAA in Clinton, MN, in the 1960's. She was a wonderful cook and took pride in seeing that no one ever left her cafAA hungry. She also looked to her children who helped by waitressing, many times they tried to disappear on her. After many years of taking care of all those who came to the cafAA, Margaret then sold her business and worked at the Clinton School as a cook until retiring and moving to Ortonville.

In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed walking. Her favorite stroll was out around the Ortonville Golf Course, time and again, Margaret could be caught out strolling with her dog, Sandy. Margaret treasured her quiet time spent working on her sequin calendars and also her jig saw puzzles. She loved her family and cherished all the memories made during visits with children and grandchildren. Margaret also loved making music with her harmonica and even loved to get out and dance, she was a member of the Love Circle at the First English Lutheran Church which was only fitting because of her love for everyone. She will be truly missed.

Her children will remember their mother's strength and zest for life. She touched the hearts of many friends and family throughout the years. She looked for opportunities to help others. Margaret was often making sweet rolls and inviting family and friends to enjoy them. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Margaret was called home on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN.
