Lois Sandberg

October 20, 1915 — January 17, 2010

Lois Caroline Sandberg was born on October 20, 1915 in Wolf Point, Montana to Edward and Vera (Heacock) Casterline. In 1918, at the age of three, her mother passed away from the Swine Flu. Lois was raised by her maternal grandmother, Nora Heacock, in Clinton, MN. Lois at the age of nine attended Sunday School in the old Methodist Church in Ortonville, MN. when her family moved to Ortonville, MN. She spent some summers with her father in Vida, Montana where she would ride horses to round up cattle. They moved to Montana when she was 14. She returned to Ortonville area and graduated from Clinton High School.



In 1936, Lois was united in marriage to Wilmer Sandberg. They lived and farmed in Prior Township near Clinton, MN. To this union, they were blessed with six children: LeRoy, Vern, Karen, James, Cathleen, and David.



Lois enjoyed music and was a soloist for years in the First Methodist Church in Clinton and surrounding churches. She was a good seamstress and in her later years, she sewed many quilts. Lois became a member of the Ortonville Methodist Church where she was involved in Circle, (was an honorary member of Mary Circle), Choir, Mission Work, (serving as missions chair) and the Birthday Club. She learned to drive and so enjoyed picking up her friends and going out to lunch or wherever they wanted to go. Lois also liked to read, do crossword puzzles and tend to her flowers. For a few years, Lois owned and operated a consignment shop in Big Stone City, South Dakota.



Lois died on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Northridge Residence in Ortonville where she had lived to reach the age of 94 years.



She is survived by her children: Vern (Mona) Sandberg of Missoula, MT, Karen (Chuck) Balster of Rochester, MN, James Sandberg of Hermitage, TN, Cathleen Hilding of Coos Bay, OR, and David Sandberg of Oxford, FL.; 8 Grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother Vernon (Geri) Casterline of Keizer, OR, and one half brother Keith (Evelyn) Casterline of Vida, MT.



Lois is preceded in death by her husband; one son, LeRoy Sandberg; one great-grandson, Henry Balster; her parents; and one brother Garold Casterline.
