Leonore Mathes

Leonore Marie Schreier was born on June 19, 1937, in Sisseton, SD, to parents Leonard and Florence (Peterson) Schreier. Leonore became a child of God through Holy Baptism in the Catholic Church in Sisseton. She attended school in Sisseton, graduating in 1956.

Leonore married Gary Berger on July 17, 1956, in Sisseton and to this union two sons were born, Michael and Jeffrey. Leonore moved to Marshall, MN, where she worked at J. C. Penneys for several years.

Leonore met and married Harry Mathes, Jr., in Marshall on October 21, 1961. Mike and Jeff welcomed a brother, Jon. The family moved to Ortonville, MN, in 1972 and made it their home. Leonore worked at Monarch Heights Group Home in Ortonville for four years. She loved being able to help those in need.

Leonore's favorite pastime was fishing. She enjoyed going out in the boat as well as ice fishing and loved teaching her children and grandchildren how to fish. She treasured the time spent working in her flower garden and also enjoyed playing Yahtzee with Harry, which she did until a few weeks ago. Leonore was a strong-willed woman. She loved her family deeply.

On Sunday, January 2, 2005, Leonore died at the Northridge Residence Home in Ortonville, MN. She had reached the age of 67 years, 6 months and 14 days. Preceding her in death are her parents, Leonard and Florence; and a sister, Marge Erickson.

Leonore is survived by her husband, Harry Mathes, Jr., of Ortonville, MN; sons, Mike (Laura) Berger, Jeff (Julie) Berger, and Jon (Sara) Mathes, all of Ortonville, MN; grandchildren, Joshua (Stacy), Samuel, Brittany and Gabriel Berger; Jacob and Rachel Berger; and Joseph and Hannah Mathes; great grandchildren, Courtney, Jasmine and Braiden Berger; a nephew, Kelly Erickson; special friend, Eleanor Pavin; many cousins and friends.
