Leonard Stanley

September 18, 1920 — October 17, 2009

Leonard Robert Stanley was born on September 18, 1920 in Odessa Township in Big Stone County, to parents Alfred and Bertina (Rand) Stanley. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Eids Lutheran Church. He also attended Eidskog Lutheran Church for many years and was instrumental in the building of the Abiding Faith Free Lutheran Church of Ortonville.

On October 21, 1942, Leonard was united in marriage to Verna Viola Robertson, and enjoyed 61 years together before Verna passed away on February 6, 2004. They lived on a farm in Odessa Township where they raised one daughter, Linda. They also raised thousands of turkeys for Swift & Co. Leonard had his own gravel hauling business. He also drove semis for various businesses around the Ortonville area. Leonard enjoyed camping, fishing, deer-hunting, and going to Arizona for the winter to be with the many friends he had there. He liked doing many different woodworking and carpentry projects – from making toys and playhouses for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and making clocks and other things for family and friends, - to making a camper out of a school bus, and remodeling his home. His handiwork can be seen in every room of his daughters home, Most of all, Leonard enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In September 2004 Leonard moved from the farm to Lakeside Apartments in Ortonville where he lived independently with some help from Home Care. In September of this year, when he needed more assistance with his daily care, he moved to Northridge Residence, and on October 17, 2009, Leonard passed away, reaching the age of 89 years and 29 days. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Milton) Henningson of Winthrop, MN; 4 grandchildren, Michael Henningson of Winthrop, MN, Melissa (Bryce) Boman of Annandale, MN, Mark (Jodi) Henningson of Winthrop, MN, and Marci Henningson of Winthrop, MN; 6 great-grandchildren, Nathan Henningson, Rebecca, Anna, and Wyatt Boman, Alexis and Addison Henningson; 1 sister Arlys (Eugene) Topitzhofer; 3 sister-in-laws, Marlene Stanley, Hannah Sitter, and Freda Robertson; and many nieces, nephews and friends..

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Verna (2004); I infant daughter, Carol (1946); 1 grandson, Mitchell (2004); 3 brothers, Raymond (1918), Arthur (1944) and Roger (1995). 5 brother-in-laws, Raymond Robertson, Cyrus Robertson, Merle Robertson, Elvin Randall and Howard Sitter; 3 sister-in-laws Lorraine Robertson, Dorothy Robertson, and Alviera Randall.
