Lawrence Gerhardt Bergseth was born on November 19, 1915 in Odessa Township to Lars and Elizabeth (Johnson) Bergseth. Here he resided with his 13 brothers and sisters until they moved to the Artichoke Area. Lawrence attended Country School #48 and then #49. He was baptized in 1915 and confirmed in 1931 into the Lutheran faith at Eidskog Lutheran Church.

On January 28, 1946, he was married to Arvilla Smith Bergseth. After their marriage they farmed by Long Tom Lake and later moved to a farm located by the ?old radio station?. Lawrence was always a farmer at heart. He enjoyed every season from the sowing of seeds to harvest time. The farm animals were his ?trusting? friends. On November 6, 1941 Lawrence lost his right arm while picking corn on the Elai Steen farm in Artichoke Township. This was two days before he was to leave for the military service. This was never a handicap, just an inconvenience. In 1986, he retired from tending the land and moved to town. He continued to check his farm each day until his sudden illness in March of 2004. Lawrence enjoyed reading, word search puzzles and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
