Irene Greteman

Irene Bertha Mueller was born the fifth daughter of ten children to George and Bertha (Slater) Mueller on May 25, 1916 in Lodgepole, South Dakota. Irene was baptized at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lemmon, SD on June 13, 1916 by Father John Frei and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND.



Irene grew up in Hettinger, North Dakota, and attended Hettinger schools. She met and was married to the love of her life Leonard Greteman on March 31, 1937 at the Church of Saint Mary in Beardsley. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters: Dolores and Darleen.



Irene was a very hard worker; she and Leonard worked hand in hand on the family farm. She always made sure that everyone in her family was well taken care of; making sure they were fed and clothed.



Irene enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing, quilting and traveling. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the CCW of St. Mary’s, the Extension Club, the Senior Citizens’ of Beardsley, and the Quilters of the Senior Citizen’s group.



Irene died on June 2, 2009, eight days after celebrating her 93rd birthday at the Browns Valley Health Center.



Irene is survived by her daughters: Dolores (Dick) Piechowski of Beardsley, MN and Darleen (Russ) Geyer of Superior, WI; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Gerald Mueller of Missoula, MT, Margaret Riedl of Hettinger, ND, Marium Leathers of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law Angeline Mueller of Hettinger, ND and Bernice Mueller of Dickenson, ND; brother-in-law Clayton Johnson of Seattle, WA; and many nieces and nephews.



She is preceded in death by her parents: George and Bertha Mueller; husband Leonard Greteman; siblings: Marie Snyder, Annie Johnston, Rose Reister, Lena Johnson, George Mueller, and Richard Mueller.
