Herman Schmierbach

October 15, 1909 — November 4, 2010

Herman Carl Schmierbach was born on October 15, 1909 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Henry and Martha (Fuhrman) Schmierbach. Herman grew up in the Clinton area where he attended District #9 Country School in rural Clinton until the 8th grade.



On September 25, 1940, he was united in marriage to Martha Zahn; to this marriage, they were blessed with five children. They made their home on a farm near Rosen until they moved to Big Stone City, SD. Herman was a farmer and a television repair man. He also worked at Dakota Granite in Milbank and the Big Stone Rock Company in Ortonville until he retired. Herman lived in Odessa until June of 2001 when he moved into Northridge Residence in Ortonville.



Herman enjoyed taking car rides, sight seeing, working on electronics and most of all, spending time with family and friends.



Herman died on November 4, 2010 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville. He had lived to reach the age of 101.



Herman is survived by his daughters: Ruth (Gary) Lengkeek of Rapid City, SD, Norma (Lyle) Severance of Miles City, MT, Mary (Kenneth) Ladwig of Big Stone City, SD, Deborah (Terry) Mueller of Maynard, MN and Edith Schmierbach of St. Peter, MN; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.



Herman is preceded in death by his wife, Martha; son David, two great-great-grandsons; one brother and two sisters.
