Henry Schaber

March 1, 1932 — March 15, 2008

Henry was born on March 1, 1932 in Omaha, NE the son of Henry Arthur and Katheryn E. (Kissling) Schaber. He was baptized on April 10, 1932 in Omaha. Henry grew up in Omaha and graduated from South High School in 1950. He was a U. S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. Henry enlisted on March 12, 1951. He transferred to the Reserves in February of 1953, and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1957. Henry was united in marriage to Darlene May Eymann - Towey on December 3, 1955. The couple made their home in Omaha. For the past 30 some years Henry and Darlene have spent time at their lake home near Ortonville. They moved to Ortonville in 1991. Darlene passed away on April 27, 1999.

Henry was a member of the Mason's, the Mid-America Woodcarving Assoc., the Omaha Archery Club and was a 4-H leader. He instructed several people in the area on the art of woodcarving. Henry enjoyed woodcarving, carpentry work, building model boats, fishing, and bird watching. Henry was a true animal lover. Above all, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Henry died on March 15, 2008 at the Ortonville Area Health Services in Ortonville having lived to reach the age of 76 years.

He is survived by his daughter: Trish (Iver) Kellen of Clinton; five sons: Gerald (Nancy) Towey of Ankeny, IA, Gary (Kelli) Schaber of Omaha, NE, Larry (April) Schaber of Omaha, NE, Terry (Kim) Schaber of Des Moines, IA, Michael Schaber of Omaha, NE; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister: Linda (Jim) Polsley of Omaha, NE; special friend: Jean Laughery of Jefferson, IA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Kay Emswiler and Sharen Weis; and one brother: Jim Schaber.
