Harold Hajenga

March 21, 1925 — July 19, 2006

Funeral services for Harold Hajenga, age 81, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Harold died on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare. Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:00 a.m. Saturday to attend services. The organist will be Roger Goosen and the soloist will be Lisa Dornbusch. Special music will also be presented by the Emanuel Faith Choir. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Friday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church Saturday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Dustin Dornbusch, Brad Akerson, John Walter, Jr., Wade Walter, Brian Walter, and Dave Schaack. Burial will be in the Kilborn Lutheran Cemetery, rural Corona, SD.
Harold Albert Hajenga was born on March 21, 1925, at Milbank, the son of Alex and Frieda (Oehm) Hajenga. He graduated from Milbank High School in 1944. Harold farmed all of his life northwest of Milbank. He milked cows for forty years and quit milking in 1990; however, Harold continued to plant and harvest crops for several years after that. He married Thelma (Rohlfs) Akerson on December 31, 1959, at Milbank. Following marriage, the couple lived in rural Milbank. Thelma died on January 28, 1998. Harold continued to live on the farm until moving to Park Place and later Beverly Healthcare in Milbank.
He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank.
Survivors include four daughters, Lisa Dornbusch and husband Brian, rural Milbank; Maralyn Akerson, Virginia Beach, VA; Cheryl Walter and husband John, Bel Air, MD; and Karla Mathews and husband Dick, Minneapolis, MN; two sons, Marlen Akerson and wife Nancy, Rochester, MN, and Wade Akerson, Minneapolis, MN; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Enquist, Milbank, and Esther Schaack and husband Don, Watertown, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, one son, LaMonte Akerson, and one infant brother, George Hajenga.
