Harlan P. Hansen, age 50, of Wilmot passed away April 20, 2012, as a result of a vehicular accident south of Browns Valley, MN.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Rev. Jeffrey P. Spencer will officiate.
Visitation will be Monday at the church from 4 – 8 p.m. and continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Wilmot City Cemetery. Sharon Ammann will be the organist and Carol Theye will be the vocalist.
Honorary bearers will be: Brian Foss, Monte Ammann, and the Employees of Prairie Hills Contracting. Casket bearers will be: Steve Foss, Andy Anderson, Jeff Pond, Dan Biel, Jim Pierce, Leon DeGreef, Ron Tietjen, Stan Kraninger, Tim Reyelts, Gerald Swayze, Ray Christensen, and Gery DeGreef.
Harlan Paul Hansen was born July 16, 1961, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Russell and Arlene (Thielmann) Hansen. Harlan graduated from Wilmot High School in 1979. He started a body shop business and operated it for 20 years. He later helped his cousin, Steve Foss in the cement business until last year when he went to work for Prairie Hills Contracting in Summit, SD.
Harlan was the mayor of Wilmot for 14 years. He served in the Wilmot Fire Department for a number of years. He was united in marriage with Kathy Christopher on July 28, 1990, in Wilmot. Harlan was a fun loving person and made friends easily.
Survivors include Kathy of Milbank, SD and their daughter, Emily of Madison, SD; his mother Arlene Hansen of Wilmot, SD; one brother Rodney Hansen of Wilmot, SD; one sister Carolyn Hansen of Wilmot, SD; mother-in-law Elaine Hofhenke of Big Stone City, SD; sisters-in-law: Peggy (Ron) Brandreit of Sioux Falls, SD; Michelle Karges of Milbank, SD; brothers-in-law: Larry Hofhenke of Sioux Falls, SD; Dean Hofhenke of St. Paul, MN; niece Hannah (Jesse) Stenson of Lidgerwood, ND; nephew Gerald Swayze (and fiancé Kim Argo) of Wilmot, SD; aunts Dollie Foss of Wilmot, SD and Joyce Hansen of Webster, SD; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell in 1999,; his father-n-law, Luverne Hofhenke in 2011, brother-in-law Darwin Hofhenke; his grandparents Hans and Susie Hansen and Otto and Bertha Thielmann.
