Hannah "Penny" Sitter, the daughter of Ragnald and Jenny (Pederson) Robertson, was born July 25, 1923 and resided Artichoke Township. She attended country school and lived on her family's farm for 24 years.

Penny attended Normal School in Ortonville and St. Cloud to become a teacher and taught at numerous country schools for seven years. Her love of teaching brought her life long friendships with many of her students. Penny met Howard Sitter at a Christmas program at the District 13 school. At the age of 24, Penny married Howard on November 8, 1947. They made their home on Howard's family farm by Otrey Lake in Otrey Township. They farmed and raised their family there, which became a gathering place for many family activities. Penny was active in her community, with 4- H; the Odessa Evangelical United Bretheran Church and Ortonville United Methodist Church, which she taught Sunday School and participated in numerous Circles, Bible study, and Ladies Aide. She was a gifted and talented hand quilter and a wonderful cook. She authored her own column Penny Thoughts with the Ortonville Independent, which became popular with the greater community and therefore published a book which compiled a collection of many of her entertaining "gems." Her readership enjoyed her charming wit, ability to laugh at herself and describe daily musings at the farm.

Penny loved to watch wildlife and all of the natural beauty that surrounded her at the farm. She had a tremendous historical memory of the early struggles and traditions of her Norwegian immigrant family and the gift of storytelling. She was intellectually curious and always in the company of many books. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. When Howard and Penny's health declined, they move from the farm to Fairway View Senior Living Residence. Penny received tremendous care from a loving staff and in particular her personal caregiver, Ronda Thielke.

Penny is survived by her children, Leigh Sitter of Ortonville, Bonita Sitter and partner Fredericka Schilling of Blue Mounds WI, Jay Sitter and wife BethMarie Ward of Minneapolis, MN, and an abundance of special nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard, three brothers, Raymond, Merle, and Cyrus; two sisters Alviera and Verna.
