Gloria Chaney

Gloria J. (Salsman) Chaney was born on October 31, 1932, in Hardyville, KY, to parents Riley and Stella Mae (Brooks) Salsman and would later welcome home a younger sister, Reva Sue. Gloria was baptized in to the Southern Baptist faith. As a young girl, Gloria attended country school where she walked three miles to school.
Following school, Gloria married Willie Chaney on March 16, 1949, in Hodgenville, KY. To this union seven children were born, Linda, Patricia, Debra, Susan, Paula, Larry, and Ronald. The family made their home in Hodgenville for few years before moving to Illinois where they raised their children. In 1990, they made the move to Browns Valley. When her children were older, Gloria worked nights at CTS, but her true passion was being a loving and nurturing wife and mother for her family.
In her spare time, Gloria enjoyed making candy for friend and family and taking black and white photos and painting them with oil paint. She especially treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Gloria passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the Coteau Des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD. She had reached the age of 72 years. Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Stella Mae; husband, Willie; and a daughter, Debra.
Gloria is survived by her four daughters, Linda (Johnny) Long of Browns Valley, MN; Patricia (Wayne) Ziebarth of New Effington, SD; Susan (Jack) Goehring of Browns Valley, MN; and Paula (Lynn) Watkins of Sisseton, SD; two sons, Larry (Brenda) Chaney of Russell Springs, KY; and Ronald (Sherry) Chaney of New Effington, SD; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; one sister, Reva Sue (Art) Lloyd of Bolder Hill, IL; as well as many other family and friends.
