Gladys Torgerson

August 29, 1924 — April 6, 2005



Gladys Walberg Carlson was born on August 29,1924, to parents, Gust and Anna M. (Anderson) Carlson on a farm near Clinton, MN. She attended country school at Almond Township District 21 and also Clinton High School. On May 8, 1925, she was baptized at the family farm, and on June 25, 1939, Gladys was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN.



On December 20, 1941, Gladys married Lloyd Torgerson at the First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. To this union two sons, Marland and Alan and four daughters, Marcia, Arlys, Diane, and Laurie were born. The family made their home in Big Stone City, SD, where Gladys became a member of the Tabor United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and baking for her family and friends, especially cookies. She also enjoyed being outdoors tending to her flowers and working in her garden. In their free time, Gladys and Lloyd enjoyed attending dances at the Matador Supper Club on Sunday evenings. Gladys also cherished the time she spent doing farm work with Lloyd and also managed the Cottage Inn CafA�A� for nine years. Gladys then spent 19 years at Big Stone Cheese Factory until her retirement. Gladys was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also UMW at the Tabor United Methodist Church. Family was very important to Gladys and she loved getting special gifts for her grandchildren. A special time of year for her was Christmas and the family spent many hours together hanging lights and working on the Christmas tree. She will be truly missed.



Gladys passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at the Northridge Residence Home in Ortonville, MN, at the age of 80. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; one son Alan; eight brothers, four sisters, one grandson, and one great grandson.



Gladys is survived by her son, Marland (Karen) Torgerson; four daughters, Marcia Wellnitz, Arlys Torgerson, Diane Christensen, and Laurie (Gary) Hillman; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Christenson and Edith Cooper; one sister-in-law, Opal Olson, as well as many other family and friends.
