Farrell Dinnel

July 30, 1924 — October 10, 2009

Farrell Ray Dinnel was born on July 30, 1924 to Walter and Ethel (Larson) Dinnel in Ortonville, MN. He was the fourth child and lived with his family, attending Ortonville Public Schools. Farrell resided at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center prior to his move on March 11, 1974 to his current residence, REM Canby.

When Farrell was younger he loved to go camping and fishing when REM would go to the lake for trips. He thoroughly enjoyed watching old western movies and “The Three Stooges”. Farrell also loved going to the Canby Theatre with staff and his housemates. He enjoyed going into the community to shop, see the town, and visit with everyone he could. Farrell was always quite the gentleman and loved to visit while at the shop getting his haircuts. He made everyone he met, laugh.

Farrell attended the Canby DAC daily where he worked on sanding projects, played cards and he loved to bring letters from his family to share with staff. Farrell attended the DAC until the fall of 2008 when he began a partial retirement and due to health related issues, and he fully retired on March 9, 2009.

Farrell is survived by: two sisters, Bonnie (Doug) Tibbetts of Dayton, Ohio; Beverly Roder of Greely Colorado; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Harvey.

Special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff, especially Dr. Lopez, at Sanford Canby Hospital for their care during his days there and also, to all the REM staff who have loved and cared for Farrell over the past 35 years.
