Ethel Fogelberg

Private family interment services for Mrs. Ethel Fogelberg, age 90, of South Shore, SD, will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in South Shore. The Reverend Jason Schmidt of Our Savior's Lutheran Church will officiate. There will be a private family visitation. Pallbearers will be family members. Ethel died on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health.
Ethel was born on April 3, 1917, at the family home in Mazeppa Township in Grant County, South Dakota, the daughter of Louis L. and Emma Louise (Wagner) Ebens. She lived in rural Twin Brooks, SD, from her birth until 1953. Ethel was baptized and confirmed on June 1, 1930, by Reverend Lenz at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Shore. She attended Mazeppa Country School #5 through the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to John Herman August Zirbel on July 6, 1943, in Webster, SD. The couple resided in rural Twin Brooks, SD, from their marriage until 1953 when they moved to South Shore. She was a dairy farmer, housewife and mother and worked at the South Shore Creamery. Ethel was also a past clerk of the Mazeppa Township Board. John died on February 26, 1961. Ethel married Harald George David Fogelberg on December 13, 1962, in South Shore. Following marriage, they resided in South Shore. Harold died on September 1, 1988. Ethel continued to live in South Shore until her death.
Ethel was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in South Shore. She was deeply devoted to her family and enjoyed her friends. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and playing cards, especially pinochle and kings in the corner.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Joyce Zirbel, South Shore; Ramona Evelyn (Calvin) Hagen, rural Summit, SD; and Betty June (John) Boots, rural Odessa, MN; her granddaughter, Joann Betty (David) McMahon, rural Correll, MN, and Cliff Calvin (Augusta) Hagen, Hendersonville, TN; one great-grandson, Adam Lee McMahon, Fargo, ND; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, Vernon Zirbel; one grandson, Lonnie Joe Boots; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Minnie Roscoe, Edna (Robert) Reedy and her twin sister, Evelyn (Charles) Zirbel; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Otto Ebens, William Ebens, Alfred (Hilda Thrun) Ebens; Fred August (Margaret A. Thrun) Ebens, and John Ludwig Ebens.
