Estelle Petersen

July 24, 1924 — October 15, 2013

Estelle Petersen, age 89, of Ortonville, MN, died on October 15, 2013. Memorial services will be held for her on Friday, October 18, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation one hour prior. Father Zachary Peterson will officiate and burial will be at a later date in Mound Cemetery. Following the service there will be a time for fellowship and lunch at the American Legion in Big Stone City, SD.

Estelle Elizabeth Petersen was born on July 24, 1924, to Frank and Caroline (Kaschmitter) Bremer in Wilmont, Minnesota. She attended school near Alberta. Estelle married Alvin Dale Petersen in 1946. They farmed for a few years near Alberta and Chokio, then moved to Worthington, Minnesota, and finally settled in Ortonville. Estelle and Alvin were divorced in 1973.

Estelle had many jobs throughout her life but the most important to her were the 20 years she owned and operated the Silver Spur Bar and Grill on Main Street Ortonville! She loved her work there and the people she served. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 49 years.

Estelle loved being with people – especially her children and grandchildren. She helped raise two of her grandchildren which was meaningful to her. Estelle was on the go constantly – playing Bingo, venturing to the casino, going to the Senior Center daily for lunch and to play cards and put jigsaw puzzles together. Estelle was also an avid flower gardener. Her helpful ways and loving care of others will be missed.

Cherishing her memory are her sons: Ron (Rhoda) Petersen of Soda Springs, ID, and Larry (Alice) Petersen of Sauk Rapids, MN; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister Edith Crippen of Baker, MT; sister-in-law Florence Bremer of Morris, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Estelle was preceded in death by her parents, her sons: Robert and Gary; her daughter Carolyn; her husband; her brothers: Henry, Clarence, Arnold, Edwin, and Norman; and her sisters: Verena and Anna Mae.

The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
