Eleanor Steen

Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Steen, age 68, of rural Clinton, MN, were held at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday, April 6, 2009. The Reverend Dr. DeVern Schwenn officiated. Eleanor died on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank. The honorary pallbearer was Anita Moberg. Active pallbearers were Allen J.Radtke, James Radtke, Dale Martig, Richard Kvidera, Bill Thyne, Jim Stotesbery, and Charles Lindquist. Burial was in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Eleanor was born on April 7, 1940, in Milbank, SD, to Albert and Minnie (Zick) Radtke. She graduated from Milbank High School in 1958 and from the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls in 1959.

Eleanor worked as a hairdresser in Watertown for a short period of time. She was united in marriage to Clayton Jerome Steen on October 8, 1961. After their marriage, she owned and operated a beauty shop on main street of Big Stone City, SD. She operated it from 1962 until 1965 when she and her husband moved to Winthrop, MN. Eleanor worked as a hairdresser in a nursing home in Winthrop. Upon her husband's retirement in 1985, they purchased the Steen farm in rural Clinton, MN, which they named Steen Acres. Her husband died on September 15, 2008. Eleanor continued to live on the farm until entering the Golden Living Center in Milbank on February 6, 2009.

Survivors include two brothers, Allen J. Radtke and Art Radtke and wife Judy, all of rural Twin Brooks, SD; and two sisters, Dorothy McFarland and Marcella Radtke, of Twin Brooks.

In addition to her parents and husband Jerome, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lola Malone, and two brothers, Albert and Wilmar Radtke.
