As a young girl, Edell attended Long Island District 4 Country School near Clinton, MN, and then finished her education at the Clinton High School.

While finishing school, a young gentleman by the name of Verlin "Dobby" Duhr began working for her father, Karl. Edell and Dobby were married on January 31, 1939, in Elkader, IA. Edell and Dobby were blessed to have celebrated 67 years of marriage before Dobby's passing in July of 2006.
