Dorathy Simonson

Dorathy M. Simonson was born September 18, 1926, in Adrian, MN, to Liberat and Christina (Mahler) Vathroder. She was one of five children born to this union.



Dorathy married Alfred Simonson on February 6, 1943 amid a blizzard in Wheaton, MN. Dorathy and Alfred celebrated sixty-two years of marriage and were blessed with eight children; Geraldine, Rodney, Jeanne, Lee, Julie, Mark, Gary, and Kevin.



Dorathy enjoyed cooking and baking above all other pastimes. She was known for making delicious dark breads, potato dumplings, apple pies, caramel rolls, jams and jellies. Her love of cooking and sharing with others led her to work for the Senior Citizen Center and the Graceville Nursing Home as a cook for thirteen years. Her other hobbies included crocheting, gardening and canning the wonderful vegetables that she grew. She especially loved her children and grandchildren.



Dorathy passed away July 19, 2005, at the Graceville Care Center in Graceville, MN at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, Liberat and Christina; her brother Edward, and two sons, Lee and Kevin.



Survivors include her husband, Alfred of Graceville, MN; six children, Geraldine (Don) Diekmann of Beardsley, MN, Rodney Simonson of Minneapolis, MN, Jeanne (Michael) McManaman of Syracuse, UT, Julie (Pat) Campion of St. Michael, MN, Mark (Marie) Simonson of Madison, SD, Gary (Kim) Simonson of Graceville, MN; eighteen grandchildren, Douglas, Lynn, Kim, Tracy, Tonia, Kerry Jo, Deidre, Dustin, Tyson, Katee, Ryan, Cody, Colby, Candace, Shawn, Sarah, Emily, and Elissa; fourteen great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kasey, Kelsey, Andrew, Anthony, Emily, Chloe, Britta, William, Annika, Erik, Scott, Jaquia, and Tyse; one brother, Robert (Gloria) Vathroder of Florida, two sisters, Ann (Joe) Vanderwal and Alma (Virgil) Gaulrapp both of Wheaton, MN. She is also survived by many more extended members of her family.
