Donald Julius

December 15, 1927 — December 8, 2007

Donald John Julius was born December 15, 1927, in Ortonville, to parents, Sweer and Helen (Schulz) Julius. He attended and graduated from Ortonville High School.

Don married Joan Lueck on May 6, 1956, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville. This union was blessed with two children, son, Douglas in 1966 and daughter, Donna in 1968. Don, along with his wife, Joan and his brother Boots, owned and operated Julius Pure Oil (10 years); Electrik Maid Bakery & Catering Service (20 years); Jo Doni's Dairy Bar (5 years). Their children (Donna, Doug and his wife, Erin) were also very helpful with the family businesses. After retiring from all those busy years, Don drove the City Bus for 14 years.

In his spare time, Don enjoyed sitting out in front of his home and watching and waving to people as they went by. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and his friends at Hobo Park, in Starbuck. His greatest enjoyment was cars.

His family and friends will remember him as a quiet, gentle man, who could surprise them with his jokes, songs and stories.

Don was called Home on December 8, 2007 at 10:05 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sweer and Helen; brother, LaVerne (Boots) Julius.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Douglas (Erin) Julius; Donna (Jerry) Van Dyke; grandchildren, Andrew and Sean Julius, Alexis and David Raihle, David and Daniel Van Dyke, as well as many other extended family and friends.

Pallbearers for the service will be Bill Schellberg, Chad Schellberg, Mike Mielitz, Danny Welberg, Brad Welberg, Mark Hughes, Mike Hormann, Nathan Raffety, and Joe Bergher. All of Don's God children will serve as honorary pallbearers.
