Dennis Peterson

July 25, 1955 — September 29, 2009

Dennis was born on July 25, 1955, in Sisseton, South Dakota. He was the seventh of eight children born to Bill and Helen Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. After graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1973, Dennis served three years in the army where he spent most of his time stationed in Germany. He returned to the Midwest to attend Wahpeton State School of Science before moving to Seattle, WA to take a job at Boeing, he attended Washington State University where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering. A valued member of the Air Vehicle Wing Team, Dennis worked for Boeing for over 31 years and planned to retire in 2010.



Dennis enjoyed people and always looked forward to coming home each year during alumni weekend to be with family and friends. He loved to play golf and made sure t-times were organized well in advance for all legs of the journey.



Dennis had a passion for sports. He was a Vikings and Huskies fan, and for some years refereed high school football in Seattle. In his earlier years he ran in Marathons and went scuba diving. He had learned to ski in Germany and spent many winter weekends in the mountains skiing with friends. He sought out the solitude and beauty of the mountains, usually spending his birthday there camping by himself and contemplating life. He traveled extensively in the west.



Dennis came to know his Benjamin (Peterson) cousins in and around Seattle as his second family. He had a huge heart and always had time to visit with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.



Survivors include his mother, Helen Peterson of Browns Valley, MN; brothers, Larry (Loretta) of Annandale, MN, Jim (Bonnie) of Turtle Lake, WI, Bob (Jodi) of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Betti (Gene) Labs of Browns Valley, MN, Diane (Darell)Landmark of Montevideo, MN, Joanne (David) Skarjune of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.



He is preceded in death by his father, Bill Peterson; sister, Delores Paulson; and grandparents Emil and Pauline Hedrick and Amy Ness.

Honorary Urn bearers are his high school classmates. The Browns Valley Community Choir, under the direction of Phyllis Johnson. Organist Norma Jung, Military honors are provided by the Wm. Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley. Bugler, Jim Jung, will play Army Flight Song and taps. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Browns Valley. Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
