Funeral services for former Milbank, SD, resident, Daryl Grabow, age 62, of Black Hawk, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend Keith Bicknase will officiate. Daryl died on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to attend services. The organist will be Sylvia Konstant and the soloist will be Larry Tietjen. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and will continue in the church on Tuesday one hour before services.

Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews: Ty Grabow, Ben Elder, Shelly Freese, Mindy Giesen, Megan Grabow, and Melissa Tilman. Active pallbearers will be his nephews: Paul Grabow, Josh Grabow, Talon Grabow, Cody Grabow, Chase Grabow, and Chad Sherod. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Grant County VFW Post #3486 and the Birch-Miller American Legion Post #9 of Milbank.



Daryl Harris Grabow was born on May 17, 1947, in Milbank, to Harris and Dorothy (Redepenning) Grabow. He graduated from Corona High School in 1965. He helped on his parent's farm until enlisting in the U.S. Army on January 31, 1966. He attended Jump School after Basic Training and deployed to Vietnam with the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper and radio operator. Daryl was honorably discharged on November 14, 1968. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

He was united in marriage to Donna Angerhofer on July 18, 1970, in Milbank. They farmed in the Twin Brooks area until 1985 when they moved to Piedmont, SD. Daryl drove the mail truck between Rapid City and Cheyenne, WY, until Donna's death in 1991. He hauled locally in and out of the Cement Plant in Rapid City until his sons were out of high school. He then drove truck over the road for East West Motor Express, Black Hawk, SD, until his death.

He was a member of the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church in Piedmont. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and hunting and snowmobiling with his sons. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Daryl was a lifetime member of the Grant County VFW Post #3486 in Milbank.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Grabow and friend Briana, Idaho Falls, ID, and Todd Grabow and wife Tessa, Hill City, SD; two grandsons, Tate and Tanner; one granddaughter, Tia; special friend, Christine Smith, Black Hawk, SD; two sisters, JoAnn Brewer and husband Leon, Rapid City, SD, and Shirley Elder and husband Ron, Emerado, ND; two brothers, David Grabow and wife Lori, Oslo, MN, and Wayne Grabow and wife Rita, of Milbank; and several nieces and nephews.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Harris and his wife Donna.
