Clinton Hurlbut

Clinton William Hurlbut was born on November 2, 1913 in Raymond, South Dakota to Guy and Martha (Nomenson) Hurlbut. He grew up in Raymond and graduated from the Raymond High School. Clinton married Elaine Brown on February 14, 1942. He and Elaine had two children; Ron and Mary. He farmed outside of Raymond until 1953 when the family moved to Browns Valley, MN. Clinton and Elaine celebrated thirty-three years together prior to her passing on June 10, 1975. He continued to farm in Roberts County until 1976.
On October 2, 1976, Clinton was married to his long time friend Dorothy (Miner) Mutchler. Dorothy had two children previously; Greg and Pam. He and Dorothy have enjoyed many activates together for the past thirty years. She was made a part of the annual 4th of July celebration that had begun in the late 1950's on Big Stone Lake and continues on today.
Apart from his family, Clinton's favorite pastime was fishing. He loved nothing more than to motor around Big Stone Lake dropping a line in, even if he did not catch a single fish, he was content. When the family went on a trip, fishing was always involved at some point. Clinton shared his love of fishing with his children and later his grandchildren. He always made sure that he was there for his children and in later life; he spoiled his grandchildren with the time he spent with them. Throughout his life, Clinton had a very quiet and soft spoken way about him, likely because he was always a very friendly person.
Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Martha; his first wife, Elaine; and his brother, Lester.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Ron; daughter, Mary (Bill) Hermanson; step-son, Greg (Pam) Mutchler; and step-daughter, Pam (friend, Virginia) Mutchler. Clinton is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan and Kelli (friend, Dan) Hurlbut, Thor Hermanson, Todd Mutchler, and Stacie (Chris) Dudy; great-granddaughter, Samantha Dudy, and all those who called him their friend.
