Caroline Rees

January 6, 1910 — December 8, 2009

Caroline C. Schutz Rees, the daughter of William and Theresa (Illgen) Schutz was born January 6, 1910 outside Beardsley, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Beardsley. She attended country school near her family farm, the land that was donated by her father for the school. She then attended Beardsley High School for one year. She helped out her parents on the farm until she moved to Watertown, South Dakota to live with her sister Mary. .

During her 17th year, she met Clarence Rees at a dance in Browns Valley, Minnesota. After dating for a year, during her 18th year, they were united in marriage, January 24,1928 at Watertown, South Dakota. They made their home in Watertown, Clarence working at a restaurant for the first two years of their marriage. They moved west of Beardsley on the farm across the road from her parents. Clarence worked out on farms in the area. Later they moved to Browns Valley in 1936 and remained in the area. Caroline worked outside the home cleaning homes, laundry and ironing for people in the area.

Caroline and Clarence enjoyed dancing in their younger years. She had a vegetable garden and enjoyed growing flowers. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, baking (especially pies) playing cards, and cross word puzzles. She loved her family and being with them.

She belonged to Christian Mothers sense 1957 and also St. Anthony gild.

She is survived by her children, Lavern (Lois) Rees of Kona, Hawaii, Gwen (Donald) Piechowski of Browns Valley, MN, Kevin (Joyce) Rees of Indian Hills, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; 1 nephew.

She is preceded in death by, parents, husband, Clarence; son Duane; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchildren; 6 brothers; 3 sisters; son-in-law Joseph Mollenhoff.
