Burton "Burt" Nypen, age 81, of Ortonville, died at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN on Friday, January 30, 2015.

The funeral service for Burton Leonard Nypen will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, with Pastor David Tonn officiating. Burial will be in Ambercrombie, ND at a later date. Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, February 6, at First English Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Casket bearers will be Greg Schoenbeck, Michael Schoenbeck, Brian Melton, Noah Melton, David Synstegard and Neal Johnson.

Honorary bearers will be: Germain Kunz, Morris Tietjen, Kenneth Saeger, Don Egert, Craig Randleman and Robert Glomstad.

Burton Leonard Nypen was born December 8, 1933, in Park River ND, to Reverend Leonard and Naomi (Gunness) Nypen. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School and Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. He received his Master's Degree from the University of North Dakota. Burt married Lillian Germaine "Gerry" Kneisel on June, 9, 1956 in Wolverton, MN. Burt was a school teacher, principal and superintendent until he retired in 1991.

Burt was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. He sang in the church choir and was the church treasurer. Burt was a member of the Ortonville Kiwanis, active with the Historical Society and a board member with the Ortonville Economic Development Authority and Pioneer Public Television. Burt also enjoyed spending time at the lake cabin with family and friends.

Burt is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Germaine "Gerry" Nypen of Ortonville; son, Mark of Ortonville; daughter, Mary (Greg) Schoenbeck of Rochester; daughter, Kim (Brian) Melton of Moorhead; and four grandchildren, Noah, Michael, Lauren and Taylor.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Leonard and Naomi (Gunness) Nypen and his sister, Leona Synstegard.

Memorials are suggested to the Ortonville Economic Development Authority, Ortonville Area Health Services or Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
