Funeral services for former rural Summit, SD, resident Arthur Mallery, age 88, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Pastor Dennis Webber will officiate. Arthur died on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank. Barb Bear will be the pianist, and Deverne and Jan Rickard will be the vocalists. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church Wednesday one hour before services. Family members will meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:00 a.m. Wednesday to attend the service. Burial will be in the Ortley Cemetery, rural Ortley, SD. Pallbearers will be Calvin Hove, David Dorsett, Tom Frankenhoff, Dr. Maurice Dorsett, Bob Narem, and Dennis Huggett.

Arthur was born on May 12, 1920, in rural Summit, South Dakota, the son of Truman and Minnie (Lloyd) Mallery. He attended Ortley #1 country school, completing the 8th Grade. He resided in rural Summit where he farmed for many years, until moving to Golden Living Center in Milbank in October, 2000.

He was united in marriage to Nettie Narem on January 30, 1946, in Ortley, South Dakota. Following marriage, the couple lived on the family farm in rural Summit. Arthur was a member of the Ortley Free Methodist Church and was a past member of the Ortley #1 school board.

Survivors include his wife Nettie, Milbank; two sons, Alan Mallery and wife Cynthia, Madison, SD, and Bruce Mallery, rural Summit, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Minnie; a brother, Harris; three sisters, Clara Ruedebusch, Luella Frankenhoff-Abrahamson, and Iva Dahl.
