Funeral services for Mrs. Amy Mitchell, age 88, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2007, at the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. Amy died on Friday, February 14, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and the soloist will be Jonathan Ydstie. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. and in the church Thursday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Lutheran Quilters. Active pallbearers will be Kent Nielson, Keith Nielson, Roger Aker, Roy Aker, Kent Aker, and Terry Aker. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Amy was born on January 31, 1919, in rural Iroquois, SD, the daughter of Andrew and Sophia (Rekstad) Drovdahl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She moved with her family to a farm north of Summit, SD. She received her education in a country school and attended Summit High School.
Amy married James Mitchell on February 18, 1937, in Milbank. She was a homemaker. They made their home in Milbank after working at several construction sites in SD. She was a member of and active in the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the American Lutheran Quilters. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James on June 6, 1979, her daughter Janice Bock on December 3, 2003; three brothers, Art, Carl, and Joe Drovdal; two sisters, Marion Anderson and Edna Nielson; and sisters-and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Drovdal, Verna Drovdal, Gus Anderson, Bud Froke, Alice and Vernon Adolphsen, Iola and Vernon Long, Stanley and Helen Mitchell, Elton Aker, Paul Mitchell, and Pauline and Vernon Jensen. Amy is survived by two sisters, Gladys Froke, Sun City, AZ, and Evelyn Krause and husband Alvin, Watertown, SD; one brother, Norris Drovdal, and wife Norma, Ft. Collins, CO; her son-in-law, Bill Bock, Milbank; five grandchildren, Julie Wipf, Loveland, CO; LeAnn Ford and husband Bill, Huron, SD; Tami Miner and husband Don, Cavour, SD; Jamie Dunn, Watertown, SD; and Kevin Olson, Jamaica; twelve great grandchildren; six great, great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Lois Aker Cotton, Watertown; Ila Mitchell, Summit; Phyllis Aker and husband Clifford and Caroline Aker and husband Ronnie, all of Watertown; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
