Alnora Rawleigh

August 16, 1920 — April 25, 2010

Alnora Stuber Rawleigh, the daughter of John and Magdelana (Hirschkorn) was born August 16, 1920 in Harvey, North Dakota. She was the sixth child born in the family and a brother came later. She only spoke German when she started school in Martin, North Dakota which was challenging for her but she learned to read and write.

Alnora worked at a farm a few miles away, helping a mother and new baby. When she came home for the weekend she met Earl Rawleigh who had been hired by her mother to help out. It was “love at first sight!” They were united in marriage May 18, 1938 at Fessenden, North Dakota. They made their home in Harvey, North Dakota, both working, managing a farm outside of Harvey for Concordia College of Moorhead. During this time Janell was born, followed by James. Earl left for two years (1945 – 46) for the Army. He returned home in 1947 and then Ronald came along one year later.

They moved to Ortonville, Minnesota in 1950 when Earl transferred to Otter Tail Power Company. Alnora started a Day Care, taking care of children in her home which she enjoyed very much. She loved the children she cared for.

She was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Ortonville, involved with Ladies Circle, taught Sunday School. She also belonged to the Homemakers Club and Birthday Club.

She enjoyed, first and most cleaning, cooking and baking (she would bake Swedish tea rings at Christmas and she and Earl would deliver them together to friends and family), canning, she did ceramics, and painted embroidery.

She is survived by her daughter, Janell Audette of Monument, CO; sons, James (Terry) Rawleigh of Barronett, WI, Ronald Rawleigh of Ortonville, MN; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
