Alice Schumacher

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Schumacher, age 91, of Milbank, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, in the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Alice died on Monday, November 7, 2005, in Beverly Healthcare in Milbank. The organist will be Roger Goosen. Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to attend services. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church Wednesday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be James Lindholm, Lauryn Schumacher, Daniel Bowen, Brent Lindholm, Lee Schumacher, and Paul Peterson. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Alice was born on January 27, 1914, in Vernon Township, Grant County, SD, the daughter of Max and Dora (Stempke) Raebel. She attended Vernon No. 6 country school. Alice was baptized on March 1, 1914, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. She was also confirmed on March 24, 1929, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Alice was united in marriage to Lester O. Schumacher on June 3, 1936, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Following marriage, the couple farmed in rural Milbank until their retirement in 1975. In 1975 they moved to Milbank. Her husband Lester died on July 12, 1986.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank where she was active in ladies aide while her health permitted and was a former Sunday school teacher.
Her family was very important to her. Alice loved to sew. She also enjoyed baking and cooking.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Lindholm and husband Roger, Deephaven, MN; and Shirley Bowen, Milbank, and special friend Don Marquardt; one son Marlyn Schumacher and wife Reva, Ortonville, MN; one daughter-in-law, Susan Magedanz, Huron, SD; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Alma Schumacher, rural Milbank, and Dorothy Mueller, rural Corona, SD.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester, one son Kenneth, two grandsons, Ryan Schumacher and Jason Bowen, one sister, and three brothers.
